In the Quran, the terms "Mashriqain" (two easts) and "Maghribain" (two wests) refer to the two extreme points where the sun rises and sets during the summer and winter solstices, specifically the northern and southern extremities of sunrise and sunset. This concept is found in Surah Ar-Rahman (55:17), where Allah is referred to as the "Lord of the two easts and the two wests".
